You've got to be kidding me.
I feel a cold coming on.
My throat is sore. I have a stomach ache. My head spins.
Oh. Probably the flu, then.
Damn. Not good at all.

I don't think I will get much sleep done tonight.
1000 words done. 3000 more to go.
My window has not been shut for the last three days, due to the hot weather conditions. It's usually open anyway, but at nights I used to close it. Not any more. My small room is cool in Winter, but quick to heat up in the warmer weather. It's still better than going outside, I guess, since you don't move around as much inside... because there's not enough space to.. ;p
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The neighbour who obviously has his/her window open and is snoring VERY loudly into the night is not helping with my concentration, who, after two hours of more putting off writing, has hardly made any progress..

Do you remember this building from the film, Paris, Je t'aime?!
It's the very same mosque where D and I went to have mint tea and a platter of desserts from Algeria and Tunisia. Though the waiter kept trying out all these WRONG Asian languages on us...
Fontainebleau was beautiful. The weather was wonderful. It was so big and green!!! Let the photos tell their stories...
Been trying to get everything finished by tonight, so I can enjoy my weekend in Menton, Nice, Monaco, 4 nights of fun!
They have been hot, stressed, sleepless nights...
...When I realised that I didn't know the meeting place for the trip, having received no emails whatsoever.
Strange. I asked a friend who was also going, and she kindly forwarded the emails to me. Nope, my email wasn't on the list, so it wasn't that I had mistakenly deleted the messages.
Could it be...?!!
Yes it could. Even though I had paid, as is clearly stated on my bank account, somehow my name had not been added on the very limited list..
I thought I had been one of the lucky group of twenty to see the South of France, but it looks like I have to unpack everything... Yea, I had already packed everything, ready for the adventure, you see :(
Tant pis. I guess it leaves me more time to finish my assignments and presentation.. Maybe even a bit of snooze... :(:(:(

We are all growing up,

it's so amazing

before we know it.
I will grow up some more after this wretched assignment. One more day to suffer.

April has on the whole been a sleepless month.
I think I got an average of 4 hours a night... or more precisely early mornings...
It's not that I partied hard. On the contrary, I don't think I have been partying much at all. I wish that had been the reason, but no, it was because for some reason all our tests and presentations and essays and reports and, yes, you get the picture, were all happening this month. Oh, and I went on a trip and will go on another this weekend and I met up with friends to see and eat and shop and talk and laugh in Paris... So it wasn't all bad. This week I am reading, emailing, studying, as well as sleeping, in my bed. I wish I could sleep for a few months.. I would love to, but no matter how late I go to sleep, my eyes unfailingly open before midday, most of the time around 8-9am. I had 3h 1/2 sleep last night... :( :( :(
But hey, these sleepless nights are the ones one remembers, right?! yea...

This is such a good idea! I put off having to go to the laundromat as much as possible - which is why I have been wearing the same things over and over again more than usual lately, because I don't have any more clean clothes - because I don't like having to haul down all my clothes the seven floors and onto the streets, even though the laundromat is right next to my building... Yea, I'm just lazy. I usually sit and read, but it'd be much nicer to have these kinds of sitting plans, that's way more friendlier.
Seems like everyone I know are getting married this year!
Have just heard the news of two other people who have tied the knot recently, as well as T who got married this week, and M a couple of months ago... That's, like, one wedding a month on average! Talks of more to come, more engagements, more babies, too... What's going on?!!! Have everyone timed their special days with the same year the Royal wedding is on?!
I feel I am still quite young to get married, myself, or not ready, more likely... Apparently not my friends, some of whom are even younger than I am.
Even my parents have started talking about what kind of future son-in-law they would like to have... OMG. lol.
That's worse than my grandma, who had already started on the topic two years ago! A few more years, Gran!! Let me finish my studies first. Then get a job. Maybe travel a bit. Yes, I know the twenties are when women in general are in their prime, the Golden time as you say... Oh, if I miss it, it'll quickly be down hill from here on in, to the Silver, and finally the Shit times?! Thanks Gran. No, he's not my boyfriend, just a guy who's a good friend of mine. No, not him, either, he already has a girlfriend, etc etc.
Haha..

There's a market new metro stops from my place, which doesn't take that long at all to get to. It's 2 stops from D's place as well, so met up for a bit of vege/fruit shopping as well as to eat our paella, and pastries for dessert. Yum, yum, yum :)
Typical dinner at home :) |
Afternoon tea on a Friday with friends |
So. Had no classes today, and didn't go to the two tutorials in the morning... I'm writing up an essay instead, which I hope to finish by tonight.. Hopefully before midnight...
On Wednesday at my new fav cafe D and I made a list of things we still wanted to do before the first half of the year. Going to eat cheesecakes at Berko near Pompidou was one of them, so that's where we headed today. Think we could have just shared one between us... Plus, I also had to have a cupcake!
Also, earlier this week, the two pieces of clothing I had ordered from ASOS came via post. I had bought a pair of exercise shorts and a summer dress. I love the shorts and it's to motivate myself to start exercising, because my body really needs it right now, especially since I am having too many sweet things like the cheesecakes... I'll start next week.. On the other hand the dress wasn't as I had imagined it to be, so I am returning it. Will just go op shopping. I like it better, and it's also cheaper, haha.
Tired, but happy,
Viv xx
Rise, eat, uni, eat, tiny bit of catch up sleep, eat, study, tiny bit of sleep...
So tired.. :(
So tired.. :(
Went to the best baguette place in Paris, La Boulangerie Julien in the 1st arrondissement, then had it for lunch on Pont Neuf with D. Yum!!
Also visited Sainte-Chapelle, which we both thought was awesome with the amazing fifteen window panels that really blew our minds away. Apparently St Louis built the Chapel to house a piece of the wood of the cross on which Jesus died. St-Chapelle is next to the Consiergerie, which also used to be a prison for a time and imprisoned Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution.. Interesting facts I had not known before today ;)
To wind off our day before going back to our homes with the best intentions to get a move on our many assignments, we stopped by this cafe right next to Musee Cluny (which I am yet to visit).
This is my new favourite place!!! Cafe Watt: Boire, manger, bavarder, s'amuser, flaner...
We definitely avons flâné here, which means we were in no hurry to get to our books, and passed our time as long as possible.
I really liked the interior, with the library like tables and bookcases with books and games on the upstairs, the corner bar and a bed full of cushions for seats on the ground floor, and even the colourful quirky toilets below...
Plus, how can you not help but love the Nutella coffee they offer, for not very expensive a price, either!!
Definitely coming back soon. Now, shall we hit the books, :)
Ile de Ré bike ride was so nice... even though I am not a very confident biker at all, and so I had to keep hard at work to try to keep up... plus the weather was awesomely wonderful that it was so hot! Luckily we had little breaks here and there, to enjoy the beautiful view. This was my second time on the island, but since the first time was in Winter, even though then it was a fine day as well, I enjoyed the trip in a new light :)
At the beach we got changed into our togs. On the beach. No cabins or toilets or sheds or whatever. The French style is to pretty much just strip down. Why even bother with the togs then, I wonder. Actually we got changed under the cover of our large beach towels, but D the Costa Rican and I still found it a bit awkward. lol. Better get used to it soon, though, since the sunny days are coming. Oh, but the water was still so so so cold!! It was freezing!!! I spent most of the time trying to get a tan, but I am still pale as. I still shine in the sun... drat...
At the end of the day I think everyone was all a bit tired. We stopped by a cafe before getting out of the island and going home. The sun setting over all these boats was so nice. Actually, after this final rest we still had a while to go to get to our cars, but bon... ;p
On the night of the second day of my trip, I met up with a high school friend of mine in La Rochelle. I had dinner at her place with her parents which was nice, and afterwards we went into town to get a drink and to catch up. It is so nice to have friends all over the globe and to be able to meet them in the old and the new places :)
I was sad to leave my French house in the South West of France this morning. Of course, I hope to go back soon, perhaps when the weather gets better. Apparently the cherry season starts late May/early June... very tempting... haha.
Some people dream of success, others make it happen. Of course, you can dream as much as you like but waiting for things to happen gets you nowhere. Get active and start making things happen.
Whatever journey your path takes you on, the most important thing is to have passion in what you do.
How many of you went to college, got your degree, and ended up doing something totally unrelated to your major? Studying it did not make you passionate about it. It wasn’t your path.
Education or even talent aren’t worth much without passion. So do the stuff that you love and you've always wanted to do because without it, you'll feel stuck and unfulfilled. If you work in a bank but your dream is to be a naturopath, then make those changes now. Make this year the turning point in your life. When you do what you love you will be rewarded — it will just flow naturally.
Look at those around you who just make things happen. They have a clear goal in mind and they know where they want to go. They don't always have a plan but they have the passion and the tenacity to make it work, and they achieve their goals as the end result.
Trust us when we tell you this. If something important to you, you WILL find a way. If it isn't, you'll find an excuse. It’s that simple. Find your way. Make it work, whatever it takes. Are you 10 kilos heavier than you should be? It is simple: Commit, go to that gym every day, no excuses, and train until you lose those 10 kilos. When you accomplish this, you'll have the confidence to do more. Set a goal and make it happen.
Want to stop smoking? Stop making excuses, take control of your circumstances before they take control of you.
Success isn't just about what you accomplish in your life, it's about what you inspire others to do and when you do accomplish something as simple as quitting smoking or losing weight, you'll inspire others to do the same. Anyone can change the world, and everybody should try. And it all starts with your own life.
Stop waiting for the perfect time to do what you want to do. Do it now.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone, so get used to being uncomfortable. It won’t kill you. Do you need a sign? Here it is: - Bill Tikos

My goal this year is to improve my French as much as possible. It's true, I'm living the dream in Paris at the moment, but it is also true, that, since I am going to be here for a year, I have not been trying as hard as I have been as the last time in France or in New Zealand, as well. In thinking I have a long enough time, and being caught up in the stress of the French uni system, where I am still lost at times even though most of my courses are great and I am definitely learning something, I have lost of bit of my initial enthusiasm. However, after this weekend in La Rochelle I think I have recuperated somewhat. It was such an awesome reunion to be able to see the host family who have been so kind to me the first time I came to France, and played a big part in my never ending love for France and its culture. The house has changed, but not too much; the family has changed, especially the youngest E, who has grown almost unrecognisably, but on the whole, not too much, either. Even the pet rabbit is still there! The thing that changed the most was the weather, since the last time I had been in the area had been winter, and now with the Summer coming up everything looked better in green leaves and colourful flowers under the blue sky (especially on the first day). It was so nice to catch up with them, and to be able to visit my old school and city and town. We spent the first two days on the bikes most of the time, since they are a very active family, and with me lagging behind trying to hard to catch up and not get left behind... but it is always nice to be moving heaps and at the end of the day, even when I am so tired and have sore legs, or because of that, I appreciate the experience more. It was also really nice to meet the new exchange student, who is using the room that once used to be mine. On top of it all, it was so nice to speak in French all the time, and even though I made heaps of mistakes, even the simple ones, I think I have improved quand même! :) I am so going back. They are my family. Maybe I'll go back for each season. I hope to have improved my French each time, and to come back each time with better French and renewed aspirations/inspirations. Back to my French homework... ;)
It's become a habit for T and I to get lunch together after class on Fridays, at restaurants and cafes. They have to be around uni because I have another class afterwards, which means that the fare is not a light one. Our mouths are pretty expensive in any case. We seem to have graduated from the 7€ street food to cheap 10€ set menus. Now we are onto 16/17€ meals!
Today's lunch was around my 15th arrondissement. I have been feeling like Italian for a while now, so that's what we had. It was so nice, and the portions were damn filling too. The entree itself was so big that once I finished it, I was pretty much too full to eat the main or the dessert properly.
Since it was an awesomely fine day, we decided to go up the Arc de Triomphe to burn some of the food that we had eaten. 285 steps! (Though I only counted 275..) It was so lovely upstairs, and though there were lots of tourists, there actually weren't as many as I expected, today.
I'm leaving for a weekend trip to La Rochelle early tomorrow morning, to see my ex host family there from five years ago. I am super excited!!! Gotta start packing, and an early sleep tonight.

51. Know Your Answers To The Top 20 Interview Questions
What are your greatest strengths? What are your greatest weaknesses? What relevant experience do you have? If a previous team member or co-worker was here, what would they say about you? What motivates you to do a good job? How much are you looking to earn? Tell me a suggestion you have made that was implemented. What is your greatest achievement to date? Why should I hire you? These are just a few of the top 20 interview questions that you have know your answers to with confidence. They aren’t as straight forward as a multiple test. There is no right answer—there is only your best answer. Being able to respond to these questions with confidence in the moment takes self-exploration and practice. Confidence combined with quality content will be more persuasive than your resume, GPA, or college name.
52. Prepare 5 Unique Questions For Every Interview
The last job interview question you may be asked is “What can I answer for you?” Prepare at least five specific questions of your own to ask ahead of time. Your questions are chosen in advance to show the recruiter that you have an in-depth knowledge of the company, its competitors, and the industry at large.
53. Get 3 References Or Recommendations
When you stand out, the best way to capture the impression you left on someone significant is through a reference or letter of recommendation. You will definitely need these if you apply to graduate school or a scholarship, but they are also extremely valuable when applying for jobs. Hearing about your performance word of mouth from someone prominent speaks volumes. A leader who is respected by others is willing to vouch for you and your leadership in practice—even if you didn’t have a leadership position.
54. Meet With A Career Advisor Each Semester
Career centers have tons of professional development programs and resources such as mock interviews, job search engines, resume writing and interviewing workshops, career fairs, personality assessment tools, etc. The only way to even begin to tap into all of these resources is by visiting your career center.
55. Do Company Research
Needs may be stated – told to you by a recruiter or listed in the job description. But other needs, the “hidden agenda”, are left unstated. Uncovering the employer’s unstated needs (through diligent research) can give you a tangible competitive advantage. Don’t take shortcuts. A thorough understanding of a company’s product lines, organization, successes, failures, goals, problems, and initiatives will enable you to ask intelligent questions during the interview, and to tailor your responses to the interviewer’s need.
56. Attend At Least 2 Career Fairs
Going to your industry’s job fair is a good start. Remember, you don’t always have to get a job in your major. There are many job opportunities that are available to all majors. Explore all job opportunities by visiting at least two job fairs. There are many opportunities to attend job fairs both on and off campus. The key is to not just wait for people to email you or see signs about job fairs, you have to look for them on your own
57. Recruit A Career Team
Do you feel like you’re all alone in your job search? Build a team to help you! Instead of working alone you should get a team to help you. I’m not talking about having to hire people to write your résumé, or getting a career coach, or finding a double to go on interviews for you. Gathering teammates isn’t as challenging as you think, just takes a bit of courage and time. Your team should include an upperclassman going into the same field, a recent alumni, an older alumni, someone at the career center, a professor, and perhaps a family friend or relative.
58. Read An Industry-Related Article Every Day For 30 Days
The suggestion of reading something outside of class may make you cringe, but this will help you get a job. Employers are always looking for employees that are well rounded and know what’s going on in the industry. You don’t have to be ready to name all of the CEOs of the top 50 companies in your industry, but you do have to know enough about the major headlines of the day. Reading an industry publication keeps you informed and ready to have a casual conversation during networking events and job interviews.
59. Create A Budget
Got money? You need a budget. Don’t have any money? You still need a budget. Budgets seem like such a drag, but so is not knowing where your money is going and not having enough to enjoy the finer things in life. A budget allows you to keep tabs on your money and spend it on the things that matter to you. A budget allows you to tell your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.
60. Set Up Checking & Savings Accounts
Setting up your finances doesn’t require getting a stock broker or a personal financial advisor, it’s much simpler than that. The first step is to set up your bank accounts to manage your money. Having a checking or savings account is the foundation upon which you establish your financial life. A checking account allows you to easily save and withdraw money from your bank through checks and ATMs. A savings account enables you to save money and earn interest on your money from the bank. Managing your money while in college will help you make better decisions about your spending and set your finances on the right track.

I have brought two little cacti into my home. They are so cute! Trying to make my little space as mine as possible :)
It feels like a Friday today. It was sweating hot in the afternoon, goodness knows how much hotter it will get in August! But now back in the shades of home with the candle lit and dinner eaten in the company of a glass of white wine, I'm very chillaxed. Might even watch a movie?!
Temporarily forgetting the huge amount of assignments due... ;)

After my 4 hour midterm exam, I went out to enjoy the unusually hot Parisian weather at the largest flea market in Europe. It was so big and there were so many people, and so many different types of shops!
Unfortunately I didn't get to buy anything at the market this day.. Though I spent so much on food, haha.
Definitely going back when I get the chance :)
